SAFE FOR THE PEOPLE
SAFE FOR THE PLANET

Skip Tech

Skip Technology (Skip Tech) is a R&D lab designing the most sustainable, industrial-strength energy storage system under development today. This energy storage system will allow full utilization of renewables and improve grid reliability.

The Founders

The company was founded in Portland, Oregon by two astrophysicists with expertise in fluid dynamics and system design. Unlike prevalent lithium-ion batteries, the Skip Tech energy storage system uses hydrogen and bromine chemistry making it safe for people and safe for the planet.

Skip Tech’s design and science have been validated by the National Science Foundation (NSF), resulting in the receipt of a highly-selective NSF SBIR Phase II award.

Chemistry

Bromine: Abbreviation is Br, atomic number is 35, and atomic mass is 79.904.

The Skip Tech design and chemistry doesn’t degrade over time and solves long-standing problems for flow batteries.

Assembly

Their system will be assembled in shipping containers to simplify transportation and deployment.

The company plans to outsource assembly and manufacturing, leveraging the expertise of their network of experienced partners, allowing Skip Tech to maintain focus on product design and improvement.

NEXT GEN BATTERY STORAGE

The Science

While flow-batteries are a tried and tested technology, our novel liquid membrane makes Hydrogen-Bromine (HBr) systems economically viable. HBr flow-batteries have higher energy and power densities than any other flow-battery on the market, are safe, and use non-toxic, readily available, materials.

“Liquid batteries have tried various thin-film membrane materials that could work, could last, or could be affordable, but rarely come through on all three counts. The liquid membrane delivers a trifecta.”
